I just read the e-mail that was sent a couple of days ago. regarding the article on Valley Morning Star, "Peace after a painful struggle" and You know my heart goes out to You and your family because We know how much it hurts to go on without someone that your so use to seeing and talkin to ,growin up with.. the lost of my 3 aunts to cancer, my Grandmother, and my brother who was murderd. but they r in heaven but i sure wish they didn't have to go becuase the loss of a loved one so close ..takes so long to get over and really live life again. thou sometimes it doesn't feel that it isn't fair ,but what can we do but to cry and feel the loss all over again and turn to the lord for his blessings. May the lord bless you all!

I just found out about Freddy's demise. As a kid I used to listen to him a LOT.
Recently I started playing my old LPs for my wife who is from Mexico. Yesterday we were listening to a "country gold" program in the Atlanta area when the DJ played one of Freddy's hits and then had some commentary about Freddy's life and passing.
It was a shock. But know this: I know the words to MANY of Freddy Fender's songs and he will live in my heart as long as I live.

Happy Birthday Freddy!
You would be really proud of the party we threw in your honor on Saturday!!
When he shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, And he shall make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night, And pay no worship to the garish sun.'"
(Shakespeare)
We miss you my friend.

Hi dad today is your birthday and i have been thinking about you more so than ever. Me and the girls bought a cake today to sing you Happy Birthday. There are so many things we miss like watching you on stage, the unexpted phone calls when you were on the road and the calls from you and mom while you were taking your ritual walks with sam and sammy. It sad that the girls will never have the opportunity to truly experience the joy of having you around but it is the time we do have that keeps our hearts warm. However, i thank god everday for the memories and blessing of having a wonderful father and mother to guide me, and that you are with him and no longer feel the pain and suffering. It is on this special day that we were blessed with his loving hand when he gave you to the world. You have touched so many lives in so many ways. My girls are so proud and lucky to have you as their grandfather. Happy Birthday Dad. I love you!
Your Daughter,
Marla

Hi Vangie, I was thinking about you and Balde on this special day, when he celebrated his 54th birthday in Branson and Big Billy and Danny bought him a puppy. We will always have our loved ones for eternity. Thinking of you.

As a human being I felt the loss of such a great human being. As an educated Chicano I feel so identified with the songs of Freddy Fender, with his cultural background. That's where I feel the greatest loss, we need more influential Chicanos, for the new generation. People like Baldemar Huerta who set the standard high and set a good example. He will be greatly missed, however I feel blessed that he left his music, a beatiful legacy. My condolences to his wife, his children and all his family in general, feel proud.

A great musical legend was lost when Freddy went to be with the Lord. My husband and I were stationed in Corpus from 1976-79. I can remember leaving the base, crossing the bridge and seeing Freddy in his front yard, working on old cars. (Restoring them I would guess.) I just wish that I had stopped, introduced myself and, maybe, could have become a friend. He had such a distinct voice. But, he never seemed to forget his beginnings and was thankful for what God had given him. God bless his family and I know that you still hold him close to you hearts.
