Gone but not forgotten. Your music touched the world. My sincerest condolences to Freddy's family.
I'll Be Seeing You..
I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day and through
In that small cafe
The park across the way
The children's carrousel
The chestnut trees
The wishing well
I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

My father always had Freddie's lp's playing on our stereo when we were growing up. He was proud to know he was a local boy.
My husband and I live in the same neighborhood as Freddie and my husband would often bump into him when walking to the corner store (Freddie with his cute dogs in tow). My husband said he was very nice and was happy to sign an autograph for my husband on a napkin from the convenience store. We will miss him and miss seeing him and his dogs on their walks. Our prayers are with his family.

Now the hacienda's dark
The town is sleeping
Now the time has come to part
The time for weeping
Vaya con dios, my darling
Vaya con dios, my love
Vaya Con Dios, Freddy - I will never forget you. Thanks for the good times your music brought me.

Vaya con Dios, Baldemar... I've been listening to Freddie Fender since I was a mere pup in the 70's, and am listening to his "Greatest Hits" here at the moment, with a "Texas Tornados" CD ready to cue up. In the article I read last night, he said in 2004 that his dream was to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame... he said he wanted to be the first Mexican-American to enter "Hillbilly Heaven." I, for one, will support any efforts made in that direction!
Baldemar, Freddie... You were born very near where my Fiance's father was born; you died in the town where quite a lot of my Fiance's relatives live - to him you were almost a hometown boy since you grew up in the same general area as his Dad; I see you as being almost a brother because my mom and her siblings, poor white Okies from near Muskogee, traveled from state to state picking the cotton that does not care whether it's white, brown or black hands that are cut and bleeding...
I am currently listening to Freddie sing "Jambalaya" in Spanish... Baldemar, you DESERVE that spot in Hillbilly Heaven, and I hope you get it. In the meantime, up in Rock & Roll Heaven, I hope you're jamming your heart out with Johnny and June and Elvis and Jimi and Janis and ol' Hank...

I loved Freddy's music, like so many others, I grew up listening to his music. I remember when he came to Prairie Wind Casino, and the staff of KILI Radio had a short interview with him, he was so awesome. Prayers were requested in church this past Sunday for the family. My sympathy goes out to his family and his fans, God Bless.

Growing up in San Benito at the time you started singing I felt very proud in later years when you became famous and famous you will be for generations. I remember Saturdays and Sundays in the 50's when you used to sing at Tio Leno's and Tio Pancho's neighborhood grocery stores (this was mentioned in one of your albums). You use to come on your motorcycle and put nickels in the jukebox and sing along with the songs. I remember the days you were called the "B-Bop Kid" and I still have a 45 record with this name. I went to one of your concerts here in Houston and you still ask for my family using their nicknames and after all this years you still remember us. I felt honored and proud. I took a picture with you that day and I will show it to future generations and tell them that we grew up together and that my mother Catarina use to take care of you when you were a baby. As a matter of fact you and your family use to live in a house which was behind ours in San Benito . I saw your face painted on one of the water towers in San Benito, I saw Freddy Fender Lane and soon I hope they erect a statue in your honor. You put San Benito on the minds of the whole world because of your culture which is rare now a days. You were a migrant worker just like myself and I know what you went thru in life to get what you became in later years. I read that you are going to be buried in the San Benito Cemetery and when in the Valley I will go see you to pay my respect.
