Growing up in Harlingen, Tx (7 miles north of San Benito), I remember hearing my mother singing Freddy Fender's songs. She was one of his biggest fans. My thoughts and prayers are with Freddy's family. I always associate him with home and pleasant memories.

I will always remember a story I read about told by Doug Sahm on how back in the day, he and Freddy would sit at Commanche Park with a couple of beers to watch the baseball games. I know the park well- the sad news really hits home. They both will surely be missed. Freddy will always be the best!

I never met Freddy in person, but I have such warm memories of my mother singing and humming Freddy melodies. Then again, I have been known to sing and hum his melodies from time to time?I even have my 13-year-old son singing and humming too?His memory will live on?.

I'm so saddened by this lose. and my hart goes out to all Freddy family and friends. I would like to share a store about a time while cleaning house and playing Freddy's 8 track tape (yes 8 track) I had the stereo as loud as it would go. And with 8 tracks remeber they did stop on their own you had to eject them. the electric went out and didn't come back on before my family and I went to Phoenix for the weekend. that was Fri. after noon, we arrived back home on Sunday evening and when we got out of the car all we could here was Freddy Fender singing. Are poor neighbors had listened to Freddy Fender all week end. The electric had come back on right after we had left. and at the time we were living in a small trailer park in Hillside Arizona and they had no way to turn Freddy off. I Still have that old 8 Track. I did get to see Freddy play in Phoeinx at the state fair. a lot of good memories built around all his great music. He will GREATLY be missed.

I grew up listening to the music of Freddy Fender thanks to mt Dad. The first time I heard the songs was from my Dad singing them. I loved the albums when I was a kid and always drew inspiration from the soul and passion with which Freddy sang his tales of heartache. Thank you for such a rich treasure of not only the music, but also the life of triumph over adversity that you lived. I love you Freddy! RIP, hermano!
