I was a big fan of Freddies, music. I grew up in New Mexico, with spanish, country, and chicano music. Freddy was a leader, and inovator in New Mexican, and Texas music.
We will miss him, and always treasure his music as well. He's a legend.

When I was stationed at Rockville, Iceland in 1974/75 the two most popular songs played at our club were Freddy's "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" and "Before the Next Teardrop Falls"!! I always thought he put so much "soul" and true "passion" into his music and I truly miss him as an Artist! I know he's joined the band with the Angels!

Please forgive my ignorance in my previous post. I had no idea...

My sincerest condolences.

Back in the late 70s? While driving in my Mustang to New Hampshire to pick up my mom, I was about 22 or so... we started flirting with a young man on a bus.
Originally we thought it was a sports team. My friend & I were having so much fun, we went all the way to Auburn Maine before we decided my Mom was going to kill us for being so late... Probably 2 hours past our destination...

Anyway, as I pulled into the rest stop to turn around, I noticed the sign on the front of the bus...

I said to my friend "S#!t it's Freddie Fender!!

He wasn't the flirty one, but long story short, we went on the bus and met Freddy. He was so genuinely nice, I have never forgotten that adventure.

Freddy invited us (and my Mom) to Fryeburg where he was headed to play the Fryeburg Fair. We regretfully declined.

My mom was and was about to call the state police. She got over it, but it was a while.

Hoping Freddy is doing well. Much respect.

I remember seeing you in concert in California. My Uncle & Aunt took me and my cousins to see you at Knotts Berry Farm. We met Tammy & Baldemar we went swimming in the pool. Tammy is so beautiful! My Uncle used to record me and my cousins signing to all of your songs. My favorite "Rancho Grande" & Wasted Days & Wasted Nights! I know you are with my Uncle in Heaven Hanging Out! I met your son yesterday - what a small world! God Bless Your Family!

I remember my very first concert as a kid! Freddie Fender and Dolly Parton! It was for my bday! Just heard Wasted Days, and so now I will have to dig out my FF CD & put it on my iPod! Always loved his voice! One of the best!

I miss you so much Dad and it is days like this that just make me wish i could pick up the phone and call. I hope you know how much we all love you and how much you and mom mean to us. The girls made you a card which i would like to take to San Benito. I love you and am always thinking of you.

Loved Freddy's music since the 70's. Sing on Freddy,wherever you are

I grew up in the Midwest, and back in the '70s I remember my grandmother listening to Mr. Fender on those newfangled 8-track tapes. She absolutely loved him, and she said "This is MY kind of music!" I was astounded by this, because I believe she'd been living in the Midwest her whole life and I thought his music would be outside of her range of experience or taste. I guess it just goes to show you how transcendent music can be.

HI GRANDPA I'M SORRY I DIDN'T WRITE ON YOUR BIRTHDAY.. I MISS YOU A LOT AND STILL REMEMBER THE LAST DAY SPOKE TO EACH OTHER.. YOU TOLD ME YOU WOULD SEE ME LATER AND I SAID I'LL SEE YOU TOO.. WELL YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE RED CAR IT IS SAFE AND SOUND IN THE DRIVE WAY WHERE GRANDMA KEEPS IT.. THAT WAS A FUNNY DAY FOR ME, ONLY FOR ONE REASON AND THAT REASON WAS BECAUSE YOU AND I HAD A SPECIAL BOND BETWEEN THAT CAR AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO IF I DIDN'T SEE THAT CAR AGAIN.. I REMEMBER YOU TOOK CAR OF ALL YOUR CARS NO MATTER WHAT CONDITION THEY WERE IN.. YOU HAD SO MANY CARS AND TRUCKS THAT WERE OLD BUT THAT'S WHO YOU WERE, YOU LOVED OLD FASHION VEHICLES.. I ALSO REMEMBER YOU TALK ABOUT GRANDMA AND HOW YOU SAID SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND THAT YOU WOULD DRAW HER FACE ON A NAPKIN AND GIVE IT TO HER.. I MISS ALL THOSE DAYS WHEN YOU USED TO TELL STORIES ABOUT HOW YOU MEET GRANDMA AND HOW YOU SWEPT HER FROM HER FEET.. BUT MOST OF ALL GRANDPA I MISS YOU AND JUST FOR ONE DAY I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING JUST TO SEE YOU AGAIN.

Happy Birthday Dad! It seems that just yesterday we were together and laughing. I remember playing music with you and joking around. But truly my father you are in my heart and soul and always with me to guide me each day. I remember you telling me that when I prayed to "pray for wisdom"!.... and that I have father; and I’ve never forgotten the sound of your voice as you told me this. Jesus has heard my prayers and has changed my life for the better.
