Dear Family,
Freddy has always been an inspiration ever since I heard Wasted Days and Wasted Nights as a kid, even though I live long away from the America. His voiced reached us so far and many millions around the globe. His voice and the talent will linger as long as the world will. I wish his family my heartfelt condolences.
May his soul rest in peace,
Ahmed Sunil

Dear (Grasshopper) Vanna
I am sorry of the passing of your wonderful grandfather. I loved his singing. I am so glad he shared his voice with so many people...and you are lucky to have had a Grandpa like him. Always keep him in your heart...You were called Grasshopper when I was a kid I was called Cricket....cause I had skinny legs.. You take care and God Bless you and your family.

When I heard of Freddy's untimely passing last year my first thought was what a loss to the music industry as a lot of my friends shared the same passion for his passionate music. I have been a fan of Freddy's since way back when and remain a fan to this dsy. His music is timeless because a good share of it was written as a description of life as he saw it, and more of us should see it his way. Work hard, be honest, and you will be rewarded is the message I got from his music. Freddy will be missed, but not forgatten.

THIS PAST SUNDAY, A YEAR AGO, MY GRANDFATHER PAST IT WAS TO HARD TO GO WITH MY FAMILY TO SEE HIM BECUASE HE DIED RIGHT AFTER I TURNED 16 YEARS OLD. EVERYONE THINKS THAT 16 IS A BIG THING FOR A GIRL GETTING READY FOR PARTYS. BUT FOR ME IT WAS A WAKING THAT LIFE IS TO SHORT TO BE DRUNK AND HIGH. I WAS SAD ALMOST EVERYDAY LAST YEAR BECAUSE I REMEMBER THAT WHEN I WENT TO MY GRANDPARENTS HOUSE I WOULD TALK IN SPANISH WITH MY GRANDFATHER. SAYING STUFF LIKE "HOLA GRANDPA COMO ESTAS" HE WOULD SAY "HOLA GRASSHOPPER" AND SOMETHING ELSE IN SPANISH AND I WOULD SAY "WHAT" ME AND HIM ALWAYS LAUGHED WHEN I TRIED TO SPEAK SPANISH BECUASE I DIDNT KNOW IT. I REMEMBER WHAT WE DID AND KNOW I CAN NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. BUT I KNOW GOD TOOK HIM FOR A REASON, HE TOOK HIM BECAUSE IT WAS HIS TIME AND NOW HE SINGS FOR GOD EVERYNIGHT. IT LIKE WHAT MY GRANDMOTHER SAID TO ME GOD LEND US THIS BODY AND HE COULD TAKE THE BODY BACK WHEN EVER HE WANTS. I REMEMBER WHEN I TURNED SIXTEEN I WENT TO HIS ROOM AND TOLD HIM HI GRANDPA YOU WOULD BE PROUD TO KNOW THAT I TURNED SIXTEEN AND THAT I LOVE YOU. HE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY. I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR PRAYING AND STILL WRITING. I KNOW IM TELLING YOU PEOPLE ALOT BUT I WANTED TO TELL YOU HOW MUCH HE MEANT TO ME HE WASN'T JUST A SINGER HE WAS A SON, HUSBAND, FATHER, AND MOST OF ALL A WONDERFUL GRANDFATHER TO ME AND EVERYONE ELSE.
I'LL ALWAYS LOVE HIM IN MY HEART AND IN MY SOUL NEVER LETTING IT ESCAPE FROM MY MIND.
LOVE GRASSHOPPER FENDER (VANNA)

Today I prayed for Freddy & his family, the same time as all of you. There is so much about this great man that is not known. Let his music play on & on. His songs & voice are one in a million. Some may sing his songs but there is ONLY ONE Freddy Fender. He is with God and may God be with his family.

To the El Bebop Kid:
Thanks for all the great music, TEXAS TORNADOS & LOS SUPER SEVEN, Pancho & Lefty with Townes Van Zandt, Wasted Days and Wasted Nights, too much to even begin to list.
America loves you. Probably not enough, but the love is there.America doesn't appreciate their heroes until too late.
I would like to apologize as a member of the human race for your stay in Angola.
Here's to Baldemar Huerta. I know you don't drink, but I'm lifting one to you.

Always thinking of Freddie, Vangie, Marla and Family. I have had the great honor of being accepted into their family as a daughter in law and sister in law. They entered into my life in 1988, when I married their adopted son, Billy. I have high respect for Fred and Vangie because they always showed their kind love for me and my son, their Grandson, William.... even after Billy's passing in 1989. I loved listening to Freddy's music, jokes, stories, and most of all Fatherly Advice when I needed it the most. My love and condolences to all in this time of remembrance!
With Love and Respect,
Lillian
