I grew up listening to Freddy Fender in Florida because my parents were huge fans of his. I remember going to see him in concert at the Lakeland Civic Center when I was very young. I'm currently serving in Iraq and was singing one of his songs this morning when a guy from Texas told me that Freddy had passed away. I was very sorry to hear that. He was a big part of this gringo's childhood and will be missed very much.

Dear Tammy, Thanks for the quick responce to my letter. It's great to see that Freddy's family cares as much about Freddy's fans as Freddy did. You are all good people and I look forward to meeting you at Freddy's museum. Freddy had a family he could be proud of and I hope you'll never forget that. I met your mom at your dad's birthday celebration when he got the star in Corpus Christy. She's a beautiful lady. Till then I send my best wishes. Freddys Fan Carole Canabt

There is a small comfort in knowing that one is not alone and feeling down.
I always say that, "when times are good there are great, but when times are bad it seems like it cannot feel any worse."
Unfortunately, this is one of the bad times that will be with us for a very long time maybe it never goes a way.
I cannot see his movies or really listen to his songs. But what does carry me is listening to his Christian CD "Coming Home". I did not listen to it until after he died. Had I known how beautiful and upbeat it was and how it just picks me up as if I want to dance along. I would have had my father sing it to me.
I know he wrote much of the songs. One chorus goes like this "How can i sing a sad song-when Jesus is living in me"
Another great line is "He gave me grace in place of mourning." The CD makes u sing along with Freddy. I hear it in my car as i drive. The songs stick to your memory all day.
I think of Freddy everyday and give him a kiss and talk to him.
Sorry, for you feeling blue. Hope this helps a little to know you are not alone.

I was feeling kind of low..still missing my friend Freddy..I decided to get movie so I rented a movie called"Astronaut Farmer"still feeling low out of the blue during a dancing scene"Freddy is singing Before the nextteardrop falls"tears came to my eyes how great a perfomer and singer Freddy is that the world would honor him always with real love for such a great person,a kind and gentle person.
Always in our hearts you are Freddy.

My dad listened to his music and sing it to me regularily. I haven't heard his music in so long that when I heard it in a movie it reminded me of those special times with my dad. Now my dad has passed on and fortunately I have this music to always remind me of those special days. Thank You.

a performer that I was unfamiliar with until about ten years ago. Now he has become one of my favorite singers, both in his solo career and with the Texas Tornados. With the lack of quality music being produced today he will be sincerely missed

I've listened to Freddy's music longer than I can remember. In the late 1980s I met Freddy at Yokota Air Base Japan where he was doing concerts for several nights. After his show at the NCO Club Freddy and I would go to the bars in the town of Fussa and party hard. He and I talked of many things in his life including his time in the Marines. I was a First Sergeant and Freddy told me that although he had gotten in trouble for drinking and fighting, his First Sergeant had treated him fairly and had stuck up for him. Freddy's music is great but Freddy is a wonderful person and I will always consider him a friend as well. By the way I did not know until reading this guestbook that he and I have the same birthday, June 4. He was exactly ten years older than me. Maybe the reason that we hit it off so well was our sharing a birthday. My love to Freddy and his family.

Coming back from South Padre to McAllen, as I went through San Benito I once again thought of the music of Freddy Fender, and of the man who chose that name. He made an impact on so many of us, touched our hearts - and still does...
God bless you
