When I was growing up I remember my father always having a 8 track tape of one Mr. Freddy Fender, I remember going with my father and seeing him in 1975 at The Cow Palace in California and then later in life seeing him as The Texas Tornadoes in Denver Colorado at The Grizzly Roses.. He was an inspiration to me then As well as today. The music he created was a testomony to our culture and our times as Hispanics. His influance will be felt and heard in all the great Tejano and country music still to come and in the music of Today and Yesterday. I extended all our prayers and gratutude to his family and wish him a great peaceful journey from all of us here in Northern Colorado at KRFC 88.9 FM'S "TEJANO IN THE MIXX" God Bless and peace be the journey
Respectfully In The Lord and La Onda Tejana

Growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and now teaching here in the Valley makes me realize just how universal music is. Freddy's music was heard by me, as a kid in the 1970's way up in the U.P., before I ever knew where the Rio Grande Valley was.
Bless you for making your music and culture a part of mine.

My prayer and condolences go out to the familia de Freddy Fender. Know that he was much loved by many, and will always be remembered in our hearts. I had the pleasure of seeing one of his shows in Laughlin and was thrilled that he hung out and met his fans & signed autographs. He seemed like a very humble man. Vaya con dios, Freddy.

As a teacher in the Rio Grande Valley and as a longtime fan, I have used Freddy as a true success story for my students. "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" was released when I was in high school & I've been singing it ever since.
God Bless you, Freddy and may you be singing with the greats.

I love you Freddie. I was at your last performance at Stevens Steakhouse. Even though I did not personally know you, there is a void in my heart. I attended many of your performances and even got to go back stage to get your autograph. You will be truly missed and there will never ever be another. Prayers to your family
