Freddy's music was loved by millions, including me.
I never met Freddy but I played around the Harlingen-Brownsville-McAllen-Corpus area for a couple of years and met a lot of musicians who knew him.
RIP, Freddy, your music lives on.

We owe it to this man and his generation for shaping our music, tejano music, and may we continue to let the strings, drums, and rippings of the accordion ignite our nights. Whether we are at the club or in our backyards, keep it up. No one is ever really gone. He's either riding shotgun or hogging the stool next to you at the dancefloor. !AJUA!

I was born in San Benito to parents who were close friends of yours. I have pictures of you sitting in our living room playing the guitar and singing to me as I looked up to you with admiration as a very little girl.
I will treasure the many stories I have been told of you by my parents.
I have taught my children about you over the years and they have grown to love your music and even wrote reports on you during Hispanic Heritage, and proudly showed their classmates the picture of Freddy Fender with their mommy as a little girl
My daddy will be at your service, as he is still in Texas, but unfortunately I am far away and can not attend.
Thank you for the memories and for leaving your mark and setting a prescedent for the Mexican-American community.

African American female(Black was the trem of choice back then)growing up in Georgia and loving Freddie Fender. Many people tell me that I am crazy, because I always talk about Freddie's music. I had a conversation with a lady a few months ago in a store about Freddies music, while school shopping. People looked at us as if we were crazy, even our daughters. We were talking and singing in the middle of the store lost in the conversation about Freddie Fender. She was AA also. So to the memory of Freddie and to his family and friends so many people were touched by the music of FREDDIE FENDER.
P.S.I still play his music today.

I met Freddy in Memphis, TN along time ago (late 70s/early 80s). He was playing at The Midsouth Fair. My favorite song was "Before the last teardrop falls". Freddy's family will be in my thoughts and prayers. We lost a great entertainer. Just remember there is no tears in heaven. We lost my brother 11 weeks ago. I know James was at the gate of heaven, welcoming Freddy home.

Dearest Freddy,
I grew up listening to your songs and listening to my daddy sing your songs. I have a c.d. in my player in my SUV with your songs on them. I have records I'll play for years to come. You will be missed, but we also know you are in a much better place... singing with the angels.
Our heartfelt prayers are with you and your family, whom I know will miss you much.
Love always,
Vaya con dios amigo,
Katheryn
