I am a 44-year-old who has a memory of a "famous" singer laying carpet in our home in San Diego in approximately 1967-68. I remember this vividly because he gave us one of his recordings. I was only 4 or 5 years old at the time and none of my family remembers this. I've carried this memory all these years, thinking fondly of Freddy whenever his name came up in the news or with a new song. And in researching now, I was sorry to learn of his passing. If anyone could verify that he actually did work as a carpet layer in that era, it would mean a lot to me. Alas, the record he gave us has long since disappeared.

There is no sadness in me for this man who gave so much to me (and so many others thru his music). I am a NOrth American Native living in Canada. I also am volunteer radio, announcer/dj with "KWE, 105.9 FM." A Native station on Tyendinega, Mohawk Territory in the beautiful Bay of Quinte. My thank you will be in the form of a musical presentation of Freddy's music on the first available time slot I can manage. It may not sound like much to some as we Onkwehone:we tend to say things succinctly - thus, to Freddy,a simple but heartfelt "thank you" (Nia:wen) for so many years of his beautiful voice.

I first heard Freddy when I was 8 years old back in 1975. I saw him at the San Jose fair with my aunt, and afterwards at a Taste of Texas in Covina Ca. I truly do love his music, and was very sad when I heard of his illness and death. I am glad he had a close relationship to Jesus at the end of life on earth. I know the good Lord is enjoying his company and music. I play Jumbulaya everyday, no joke. I wish his family comfort in the Lord and want to thank them for sharing Freddy with the world. God Bless You and keep you.

I just listened to Before The Next Teardrop Falls with Clay Walker on his new CD. I hope you felt he did justice with the song, which included Freddy. It brought back memories of my dad singing that song when I was younger.

Vaya con dios, Baldemar - the Texas Tornados are one distinctive voice short, and Johnny Cash has someone to sing tenor for him in Heaven...
